Polyhexamethylene Biguanide (PHMB)
Product Description
Polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride Application
Polyhexamethylene Biguanide Hydrochloride (PHMB) has been widely used in medicine as a bactericidal preservative. Used as a medical product for disinfecting contact lenses, eye drops, and surgical procedures. Due to the strong tolerance of PHMB to the eye, it can be used as a treatment of Acanthamoeba keratitis, prevention and treatment of other eye diseases.
PHMB is also widely used in cosmetics, personal care products, textiles, food industry. With the development of science and technology, polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride has many new applications. Examples include as a flocculant, in swimming pools and industrial water treatment as a bactericidal algicide, in oil injection water as a fungicide, and can be used to clean and remove harmful substances on glassware and other hard surfaces.
PHMB is cationic polymer bactericide based on guanidine salts, and it is already proved to be broad spectrum, fast-acting and long-acting.
PHMB is high molecular polymer, and its hydrophilic group is with strong positive charge when ionized in water. Bacteria is mostly with negative charge and will be absorbed by PHMB, which will inhibit the liposome synthesis of bacteria’s cell membrane to control cell division and finally kill the bacteria. This is why PHMB is more safe than other disinfectants based on chlorine.
